MSB Status brings together public licensing records and disclosed banking and payment relationships for counterparty due diligence. Research an entity, understand which licensed providers it relies on, and identify the official records to verify before making a decision.
Check the company behind a payment or banking product, its known licensing footprint, and the banks or licensed entities connected to it. Use the relationship map to investigate who provides regulated infrastructure, then verify each relationship against its cited source.
What to check
Company and trade names
Money transmitter licenses
Banking-as-a-Service partners
Crypto and stablecoin risk research
A stablecoin wallet, exchange, issuer, or on-ramp can involve several different regulated parties. Research available MSB registrations, state licensing, custodians, trust companies, and fiat banking partners. A registration alone does not establish that a particular token, reserve, or activity is approved.
What to check
FinCEN MSB registration
State licensing and trust charters
Custody and fiat settlement relationships
Payments and money movement
Trace publicly disclosed providers behind wallets, transfers, and payment flows. Compare the operator with its sponsor bank or licensed provider and review the available registry records in the relevant jurisdiction. Payment processors and card-acquiring ISOs are generally outside the platform's core research focus.
What to check
US and Canadian registrations
UK and EU payment institutions
Publicly disclosed provider relationships
A practical due-diligence workflow
Identify the legal entity. Search the company name and known trade names. A product brand may not be the regulated entity.
Check jurisdiction and activity. Review FinCEN, FINTRAC, Bank of Canada, FCA, EBA, and available state license records as applicable. Registration, licensing, and authorization have different meanings.
Map the providers. Read available terms, cardholder agreements, and public disclosures for bank, custodian, and licensed-partner relationships. Do not infer a current relationship solely from a historical listing.
Verify at the source. Open the relevant official registry and current company disclosures before relying on a record for compliance, investment, or business decisions.
